Boeing couldn’t have a better friend than General Mick Ryan. He’s always suggesting Australia buy more weapons from the United States. (Which is one of the reasons we suspect him as a propagandist).

At Mick’s lecture we discovered another connection between the University of Queensland (UQ) and the Pentagon’s propaganda arrangements.

Turns out Ryan was being shepherded by the deputy head of “Defence” and “Space” Research at UQ, Greta Nabbs-Keller. Dr Nabbs-Keller has a history as an ADF “intelligence” officer. She is a Bahasa Indonesian speaker. She is also director of the “Hypersonics Program” research at UQ that Boeing is central to.

In his introduction ALP stalwart Paul Lucas acknowledged Nabbs-Keller for her UQ position. It appears she set this lecture up. Is she on the propaganda team too? We wonder why someone who organises research partnerships is accompanying an unpaid adjunct ‘professor’ for a novel he’s written about the “war over Taiwan”?

General Mick Ryan has been propagandising for the Military Industrial Complex (MIC) – for the Pentagon, for Empire since early 2022 (according to his LinkdIn). He’s been given ‘expert strategist’ status by the mainstream media.

We have to wonder why no other “strategist” can be found to back the Pentagon talking points he does. Whether on the payroll (he claims not) or a “useful assistant” it is unclear. He is certainly centring himself. And UQ is part of that story.

One of General Ryan’s “positions” is adjunct professor at UQ, but it’s hard to find what he researches there. Or how he got professor status as someone with a minor masters degree.

The Pentagon is the US’s Empire Department. With the mega weapons corporations, the MIC drives the plans for war. It’s good for the MIC businesses. The propaganda organisers involved teams of people operationalising the plan. They are tasked with drawing people into their pro-war scenarios. They spruik for war.

The propaganda units have to soften up and prepare populations – to build a consensus that war is a good idea. Dr Binoy Kampmark gives another view on Ryan here. And Caitlin Johnstone here.

Wage Peace and AUKUS and the Submarines

Aukus is an agreement – a “security pact” – between the governments of Australia, the United Kingdom and the United States aimed at what, we don’t quite know.

Submarines carry and launch nuclear missiles, standard missiles and hypersonic missiles. Missiles are bombs. The Military Industrial Complex wants more and bigger military projects because it’s good for business, and that is its business model. Big projects necessitate the corporation to be involved for a LONG time, receiving lots and lots of government money.

First Nations Land, Submarines and Nuclear Waste

We assert that the nuclear weapons corporations want Australia to take and hold ALL UK and US’s high level nuclear waste. This is not widely documented though people following the issue in the 80s and 90s know it in their bones.

First Nations people have said No! to radioactive waste on their land 6 times. So the government under direction of the nuclear corporations will regulate it as “Defence” Land.

Australians are more likely to accept a waste dump if it’s labelled “Australian” Nuclear Waste. That’s why the nuclear companies want it labelled an “Australian” Nuclear Sub.

David Hardaker of Crikey has suggested that this is a key driver of the entire “AUKUSwillFukus” deal.

Ships and Submarines and Weapons

Americans have a zillion military projects on the go. 1 trillion US dollars a year is being spent on military projects. Every electoral area in the US has military projects which make that area beholden to the Military Industrial Complex.

There’s not enough engineers in the US for their too-BIG military projects. So Australia’s tax dollars will pay for US military shipbuilding. Through AUKUS, the US has organised Australia to fund, educate and pay a workforce to build US weapons. It’s a lie that these weapons belong to Australia. And even if they did – we would be opposed to such flagrant wasteful, distasteful purchases.

Which corporations get the BIG BUCKS? General Dynamics/Electric Boat, BAE and Boeing.

Boeing develops hypersonic missiles. It is developing these in Brisbane at the University of Queensland. The Universities are being drawn into this scenario.

Each Corporation has its pet Australian university. BAE – Adelaide Boeing – Brisbane Thales – Sydney LockheedMartin – Melbourne

Big Guys on the Inside, Submarines and State Capture

Canberra is run by ‘operatives’ of BIG corporations and consultancy firms: like Crosby Textor (CT). It’s been “infiltrated”. It’s not just about lobbying – it’s been “captured”! State Capture.

Crosby Textor infiltration is a great case study that is very relevant to AUKUS. The last Prime Minister’s private secretary had been CEO for Crosby Textor. Crosby Textor also did electioneering for Boris in the UK and the LNP in Oz. AND Crosby Textor has BIG contracts with General Dynamics. It’s basically funded by General Dynamics.

Back in the 90’s, Mr Textor was pushing for nuclear waste dumps.

We also have US naval commanders (appropriately labelled “Swamp Monsters” by Caitlin Johnstone) sitting near the top of the Defence Department.

Exporting Weapons, Components and Submarines

Australia is organising to be a BIG weapons exporter. In 2018 they announced that Australia would plan for being in the top 10 exporters of the world. It’s strange because actually they are in the top 3 or 4 importers of weapons. This is extraordinary for a country without any threats of enemies.

Australia is already the 3rd BIGGEST importer of weapons. And Australia is attempting to develop its ‘manufacturing capabilities’.

But the US won’t allow certain types of manufacturing: the necessary Intellectual Property (IP) is withheld. We are only allowed to make what the US allows, that benefits the US. This is outlined in the excellent book of Professor Clinton Fernandes – Australia a Sub-Imperial Power.

We think there is a one main thing going on there.

ENDLESS WARS bring endless profits for endless corporations.

We can tell that Australia is planning for war with China and we are heading for war – but why and how. Who is involved? And how did these submarines come to be?

We are provoking war with China to sell weapons and keep the economy going in the USA.

Because the USA is a military industrial complex.

The US with Australia is provoking war with China to avoid war with the USA.

Letter of Concern from Engineers: Weapons Corporation Boeing Should Not be at the University of Queensland

Professor David Hood has written a letter to the University of Queensland regarding the imposition of the weapons trade on university culture. He has specifically referenced the weapons corporation Boeing. We have invited engineers – retired, re-professionned, current, or students – to indicate support for Adj Professor Hood’s letter by adding their voices to this initiative. Engineers are encouraged to write to the Chancellor of University of Queensland Mr Peter Varghese, or resend David’s letter with an endorsement. Weapons corporations tend toward promoting war and violence and actively work against peace: they simply have no place influencing universities.

Dear Peter,
I’m writing to express my concern about the influence that the Boeing
Company may be exercising on the culture of the university as a whole
and in particular on engineering teaching and research. My concern
stems from the fact that Boeing is primarily a weapons company and the
third-largest military contractor in the world, with annual revenue of
around USD$20bn from weapons related contracts.

The University of Queensland’s (UQ) partnership with Boeing is not only
ethically questionable but also at odds with research in and the teaching
of sustainability principles. At a time when the world faces a climate and
biodiversity emergency it is hard to accept that UQ would prioritise
partnerships with weapons companies over ensuring sustainability
outcomes from your research and the ethical attributes of your
graduates. This is particularly disturbing where engineers are
concerned.

The size and influence of the Boeing Institute at UQ is out of proportion
to the other work being done within the School of Engineering, and it is
concerning that a weapons company has positioned itself in the heart of
a highly respected academic institution. We must ask ourselves how we
can be sure that Boeing has not embedded itself at UQ as part of a
larger strategy to ensure its leadership in weapons development and
increase its profitably by normalising war.

The engineering profession is at a crossroad as we emerge from a
period of domination by fossil fuel companies and their extractive
projects in Australia. Right now, we must address the existential threats
to all life on Earth posed by climate change and the increasing loss of
ecosystem services through the destruction of nature and fauna habitats due to rampant human activity. We must grapple with the ethical implications of the choices we make as a profession.

As a graduate of, and an Adjunct Professor in the Faculty of
Engineering, Architecture, and IT at UQ, I ask that you review the
Boeing Institute at UQ and question its impact on faculty outputs. We
cannot allow the military-industrial complex to influence the
independence and strategic direction of our academic institutions.

Boeing has a weapons research facility which dominates engineering at UQ.
The UQ “defence“ and “space” research unit is pushing a self serving narrative for war in order to justify weapons development.
Boeing takes about $4-5bn a year from the Australian taxpayer. And US weapons companies like Boeing are receiving about $20-30bn a year from Australian taxpayers.
Weapons are a business model. It‘s commerce not defence. Hypersonics are core to a wasteful arms race.
UQ is “Space-Washing”. UQ pretends that weapons engineering is not connected to increasing, unethical, wasteful militarism. Hypersonics are core to a wasteful arms race.

War-Mongering with China: A Justification for More Weapons Sales

Commentary by Anthony Kelly, Melbourne, Naarm.

Wage Peace finds the Red Alert media story in the Channel 9 media (Age SMH and 7media) on Wednesday 8th March deplorable. We see Richard Marles’ – together with Stephen Smith the author of the strategic paper – disgusting alliance with the US in action as do what they are told they prepare Australian’s for giving huge amounts to WEAPONS corporations.

People see through it. But they are not sure how to act. Call out the weapons corporations. It really is a critical time. Below is a reflection by friend of Wage Peace, Anthony Kelly.

Some cursory observations about the Red Alert media war-mongering series in the Age/Sydney morning Herald this week.

It draws in five ‘experts’ – all aligned within a narrow security defence preparedness mindset. No peace researchers, China experts or diplomats.

The framing is extremely narrow, in fact far more narrow than the so called Defence White Papers and other industry generated ASPI papers- basically limited to ‘could we cope militarily if China invaded us?’ That’s entirely the wrong question.

There is zero critique of Australia’s military alliance with or subservience to the US war-fighting strategies and how that remains our single largest strategic risk as a nation.

Blind support for the US is assumed by the editors – rather than challenged or questioned – like real journalism.

It refers to US bases being targets in a potential war – yet offers no critique that removing them might make us safer. Red Alert even states that 200,000 US troops would be targets if stationed here. Again – it’s the US alliance that makes us potentially unsafe but that obvious conclusion is not drawn by these ‘experts’.

The fact that China has the US navy routinely exercising off its coast, and is almost entirely surrounded by bases and US allies, and has been dealing with continual economic and political containment by the US for decades….is not even mentioned.

There is zero analysis or even mention of the current global security architecture, such as global weapons regulations, bans and sanctions (as frail as it is), that Australia is also a part of and can also decide to invest in as part of its ‘defence strategy’ if it chooses. Nuclear Weapons ban anyone?

Red Alert articles have a clear narrative – emphasizing or headlining factors that might lead to war often with great hyperbole – whilst minimizing or scooting around those that make it look less likely.

Former Diplomat David Livingstone has said that “China has neither the capability nor intention to undertake a maritime invasion of Australia, and it is clear that the ADF will not impact China’s thinking on Taiwan” This little observation from back in February is ignored.

Peace and security pundits have been warning of the rapid miltarisation of the entire Asia-Pacific region for years – India, Japan, Korea are all modernising and expanding militaries along with China. Rather than critique or even explore the risks of the Asia Pacific’s decade long arm’s race spiral – where countries repeatedly reinforce their own militaries in response to the growth of their neighbors’ forces, Red Alert just feeds into it.

“Buy more weapons” is the ultimate and only solution this ‘innovatiove, in-depth, investigative’ piece of drival offers. It’s like a full-colour, wrap-around, sponsored ad for AUKUS.

Let’s not mention climate change hey.

Marles and Thales: a match made in the military industrial complex, 01.02.23.

This is what Defence Ministers and Foreign Ministers do. They swan around the world on tax payer funded junkets arranging the transfer of public money to private corporations, aka selling weapons.

Gunpowder, manufactured by Thales, in Australia, will fuel the disaster that is the war in Ukraine. We pay for this climate and humanitarian catastrophe now, through our taxes, and for decades to come, through climate collapse and war trauma.

THERE IS NO END TO THE HARM THAT WEAPONS DO.

Gunpowder will not keep us safe. Gunpowder will not keep Ukraine safe. The people of Ukraine and Russia are united in wanting the war to STOP and the dialogue to begin.

Our elected representatives, meanwhile, are wining and dining in Paris to gain contracts for one of the most corrupt companies in the military industrial complex – and that is a VERY high bar.
